On 14th December 2024, the DMI ‘Spring of Hope’ Vocational Training Center (a safe house for survivors of human trafficking) marked the day with the 14th Graduation Ceremony for 65 candidates who successfully completed their one-year diploma courses in various skills, including Tailoring, Beautician, Catering, and Computer Studies. The day was filled with profound joy and happiness for the girls, who were excited to reap the rewards of their hard work and dedication throughout the year, accomplishing one of the significant milestones of their lives.

The ceremony was honored by Mr. Victor Morales, Vice-President of EMEA Mining at Orica, Portugal; Mr. Patrick Wells, Senior Manager at Orica, Australia; and their colleagues, who are among our well-wishers and supporters. Rev. Sr. Vijili Dali DMI, Mission Director for Africa, presided over the ceremony, while Sr. Fatima, the Country Director for Tanzania, acted as the master of ceremonies.

The event began with a Holy Mass invoking God's blessings upon the girls on this special occasion. Following the mass, the candidates entered in procession, dancing and singing as they made their way to the stage. Sr. Theresia Katembo welcomed everyone to participate in the ceremony.

The Spring of Hope girls thrilled the audience with traditional dances and songs. They also performed a skit on the theme of anti-human trafficking and rehabilitation, which was well appreciated by all attendees. Ms. Theresia Kikoti read the 2024 annual report for the DMI ‘Spring of Hope’ Vocational Training Center in Swahili.

Mr. Victor Morales, the chief guest, shared that there are three key elements to success: discipline, purpose, and focus. He emphasized the importance of having a purpose in life, persevering to achieve that purpose, and maintaining a disciplined life as the key to success.

Sr. Vijili Dali DMI, Mission Director for Africa, shared that while she often begins the year with apprehension, God has blessed her to end each year with joy and happiness. She noted that the DMI mission in Tanzania has grown rapidly every year, and the support in 2024 has been incredible.

The most awaited moment arrived as the 65 graduates stepped forward to receive their graduation certificates along with special gifts from the honored guests. DMI Mission Tanzania provided each graduate with start-up kits to help them begin their own small businesses in their local communities.

Sr. Fatima, Country Director, delivered the concluding remarks, expressing gratitude to everyone who participated in the ceremony and inviting all guests to enjoy a meal before departing.

The survivors of human trafficking trained by the DMI “Spring of Hope” Center have faced circumstances nearly identical to those of the “invisible” women defended by the World Women Observatory (WWO). This demonstrates that the DMI “Spring of Hope” Center is dedicated to giving hope to desperate souls, much like the WWO. If the achievements of the 2024 graduates have put smiles on their faces, the DMI “Spring of Hope” Center promises even more joy for its future classes.
